ECF ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING 2008 ÖVIK, SWEDEN

9. 12. 2008 ÖRNSKÖLDSVIK, Sweden

Today the European Curling Federation held its Annual General Meeting at the Swedbank Arena in Örnsköldsvik, Sweden.

The main issue for discussion was the implementation of a new playing system for the European Curling Championships (ECC) as of 2010 onwards. The Executive Board recommended that the ECC in future be played in three groups, i.e. A-group, B-group and prequalification round in order to make the competition on one side more manageable for Host Committees but also affordable in time and cost to member associations, players and the ECF. A final decision was postponed until the Semi-Annual General Meeting of the ECF in 2009 due to member associations wishing to discuss that issue on a national basis first.

President Malcolm Richardson retired after 8 years of dedicated service to the European Curling Federation. The outgoing President got standing ovations for his immense contribution and support to European Curling.

Subsequently, the member association elected the following new Executive Board:

  • President: Andrew Ferguson-Smith (AND)
  • Vice-President: Olli Rissanen (FIN)
  • Rep. Northern Europe: Per Näsman (SWE)
  • Rep. Central Europe: Urs Müller (SUI)
  • Rep. Eastern Europe: Pawel Kubik (POL)
  • Member at Large: Jeanette Johnston (SCO)
  • Member at Large: Konstantin Zadvornov (RUS)
  • Member at Large: Karel Kubeska (CZE)
  • Secretary General: Saskia Krügl (AUT)
